Project Description

You don’t have to skimp on comfort to get a culturally engaging experience.  Witness the classic sites and stay in the finest hotels while getting a taste of the real Jordan and her hospitable citizens.

If you want to experience things that most tourists don’t in regular tours, then this is the way to go! But if you also want to live it up for a day or so and stay in a nice hotel by the Dead Sea, then Engaging Cultures Travel can arrange that for you, as well. I’ve tried different travel agencies in different parts of the world and this tops it, hands down! The staff are so friendly and accommodating and will do their best for you.
Rob, from the USA.

On this tour you will…

  • The finest hotels & cultural accommodations
  • Full day at a Dead Sea resort
  • Exclusive camel trek and Bedouin hike into Petra
  • 10 days, 9 nights, starting at $2499/person (based on a group of 6)

Day 1 – Arrival

We will personally meet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel.  (Overnight Four Seasons)

Day 2 – Ancient Amman and Jordanian Cooking

See the Citadel and Roman theater in the heart of the city before dining in a local hot spot. This evening, you will learn how to cook a 4 course Jordanian meal.  (Overnight Four Seasons)  (inc B, L, D)

Day 3 – A Hike on Abraham’s Path

Head north to the surprisingly green area of Ajloun.  Today you will hike a section of Abraham’s Path and get a taste of local hospitality.  You’ll enjoy lunch and dinner in a local home.  Tonight’s overnight will be a “homestay”.  This home is set up to receive guests like yourselves; you will have your own room with a completely private entrance, kitchenette and bathroom. (inc B, L, D)

Day 4 – Ajloun Castle and Jerash

After a local breakfast, you’ll head to Ajloun Castle, built by the nephew of Saladin.  Then on to Jerash, one of the best preserved Roman cities in the world.  Spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing or exploring Amman. This evening, you will have a traditional Jordanian meal in a popular local restaurant.  (Overnight Four Seasons) (inc B, D)

Day 5 – Biblical Jordan and a Dead Sea Village

Part of the fee for your trip goes to support this local community (see Zikra Initiative).  Spend the rest of the afternoon in a sprawling resort on the Dead Sea.  (Overnight Kempinski Dead Sea) (inc B)

Day 6 – Dead Sea relaxation

Spend a full day floating in the Dead Sea, relaxing poolside, or in the spa.  (Overnight Kempinski Dead Sea) (inc B)

Day 7 – Classic Petra

Make your way to Petra, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.  Experience the classic walk down the Siq and the breathtaking unveiling of the Treasury, made famous by Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Spend the rest of the day exploring this amazing city.  Tonight, you will join a local Bedouin family for a traditional meal in their home.  Your overnight will be within the Petra Archaeological Reserve in a Bedouin campsite.  (Overnight Ammarine Bedouin camp) (inc B, D)

Day 8 – Exclusive Petra Entrance by Camel

A camel trek to the exclusive back entrance of Petra.  This morning, your camels will be waiting for you. Mount up and you will be led towards the rarely experienced back entrance. Once the camels can go no further, you will hike the rest of the way to the Monastery with a Bedouin guide.  This is our favorite way to enter Petra.

Once you make it to the Monastery, Petra’s largest facade, continue down the 800 stairs and make your way back to the Treasury and out through the Siq.  Tonight, you’ll experience the desert sunset of Wadi Rum. (Overnight King Aretas IV Bedouin camp) (inc B, D)

Day 9 – Otherworldly Wadi Rum

This morning, explore your surroundings on foot, at your lesiure.  Before leaving, a jeep will take you to see the home of “Lawrence of Arabia” and the Umm Fruth rock bridge.  Then return to Amman.  (Before you come, you may want to rent “Lawrence of Arabia” to get some bearing on Wadi Rum.)  (Overnight Four Seasons) (inc B)

Day 10 – Fly out

Depart from Queen Alia International Airport home or to your next destination.
